ABSTRACT:

During their life times, societies have always wanted to symbolize everything that constantly required remembering or being remembered. That kind of desire to symbolize came out as monuments in the course of time. Monuments have always changed and renewed as with the changing world. During this process, it has been one of the most important components to monitor the cultural changes of societies. Time has attributed them the characteristics such as holding the traits of construction period and describing this peculiar time. Along with developing societies, monuments have lost their characteristic as the only single structure and they have been considered as small finds from the past as well as settlements that exist in real life. The tradition of monument together with the concept of time has shown itself in Turks that have roots deep in history. Monuments in Turkish civilizations have exhibited different characteristics in the course of time and changed with social, religious, political and economic developments. Turkish people reflected the haracteristics of the term in a regional integrity to make monuments everywhere they went. The Atatürk Monument in Konya in Neo‐Classic Age style appears as the synthesis of monument‐statue approach in the early Republic Years. Therefore, the study of Konya Atatürk Monument is important in terms of shedding light on the monument understanding as well as the architecture of the term.
