ABSTRACT:

A survey of shisham (Dalbergia sissoo Roxb.) trees was carried out at National Agricultural Research Center, Islamabad. A number of trees were found dead, partially dying but looking healthy. Soil samples were taken from around the rhizosphere of these trees and nematode population determined. The overall average nematode population was found highest in the dead trees followed by partially dying and healthy trees. Among the plant parasitic nematodes, Tylenchorhynchus sp., was found predominant in all the soil samples while in the saprophytic category the bacterial feeding group comprising of Rhabditis and Cephalobids were found predominant.
