ABSTRACT:

Seventy varieties of rice (Oryza sativa L.) seeds from different ecological zones in Nigeria were surveyed for infestation by Aphelenchoides besseyi. Twenty-eight varieties including x-Chita, x-Kanko, x-Tshonga, ITA 321, ITA 306, CISADANE, NERICA 1, NERICA 3, WITA 4, ITA 230, NCRO 39, NCRO 36, FAROX 508-3-10-H22-1-1, FAROX508-3-11-57-2-1, FAROX508-3-11-F43-3-2-1, FAROX508-3-10-H22-1-1, FAR0044, FARO12, NCRO 26, NCRO 25, NCRO 23, NCRO 52, NCRO 58, NCRO 41, FAROX508-3-11-FA/57-1-1, FAROX508-3-1- F36-1-1, NCRO28 and FAROX508-3-11-F76-3-1 were not infested while others had low to high infestation by the nematode.
