ABSTRACT:

In this study, it has been aimed to define the petroleum source rock and organic facies properties of the bituminous shale found in Kozan-Düzağaç (Adana) region. Investigation area is in the Tauride Tectonic Unit and examined units are in the Geyikdağı Unit. With the help of organic geochemical and organic petrographical analyses of bituminous shale level samples from Ziyarettepe Formation, it has been tried to define the petroleum source rock and organic facies properties of Carboniferous age sediments. Total organic carbon amount in the formation is an average of 8.3%. Dominant component of the formation is amorphous organic material. The unit precipitated at BC and D organic facies according to organic geochemical properties. Source rock potential is very high in the samples found in BC organic facies while any source rock potential is not present in the samples of D organic facies.

Key Words: Adana-Kozan, Düzağaç, bituminous shale, pyrolysis, organic facies.
